Inhaling the aromas of the oils is said to stimulate responses in the limbic system in your brain. The limbic system is concerned with your regulation of your sense of smell, long term memory, emotions and circadian rhythms. Different sections of the limbic system work in different ways.
When you diffuse essential oils and you inhale them this sends a message to your olfactory bulb in your limbic system that in turn effects hormones that regulate things such as your ability to sleep and your stress levels to name a few.
